Delete your SpeakM account.
Last updated: 24 May 2026 · You can delete your account at any time. Here is how, and here is what happens afterwards.
Option 1: from the app (recommended)
- Open the SpeakM app and sign in.
- Tap your profile icon (top-right on Home) → Settings.
- Tap Account → Delete account.
- Confirm. The app signs you out immediately and your data is deleted on the spot.
Your data is deleted as soon as you confirm — there's no waiting period. Your account record, learning progress, shared voice clips, and sign-in record are all removed at once. See Held by third parties below for what each of our processors keeps and for how long.
Option 2: by email
If you cannot access the app, write to support+legal@speakm.com from the email address associated with your SpeakM account, with the subject “Account deletion request”. We will verify the request and confirm completion within 30 days.
If you are writing on behalf of someone else (for example, a deceased family member), include any documentation that confirms your authority to make the request. We may ask follow-up questions before acting.
What gets deleted
- Your account profile (email, display name, account identifier).
- All learning progress: completed exercises, scores, language preferences.
- Any voice clips you explicitly chose to share.
- Your sign-in identity (Apple, Google, or email) — revoked and unable to identify you in our systems afterwards.
Held by third parties
Some companies we use to run the app keep their own copies of certain data on their own systems. We do not have an API to force-delete those copies on demand; instead, each one ages out under that provider's retention policy. Once your account has been deleted from our systems, the identifier we used to tag those records no longer maps to a person we can recognise.
- Firebase Crashlytics — crash reports tagged with your account identifier are retained for up to 90 days, per Crashlytics' default retention, then automatically purged.
- Statsig — product-analytics events tagged with your account identifier are retained per Statsig's retention policy, then automatically purged.
- Discord — the one-time new-account notification (email and display name) sent to our internal team channel when you signed up is a chat message, not a profile, and remains in our message history.
What we keep, and for how long
We retain a sealed, minimal record of your account's existence (account identifier, last-known subscription state, deletion date, deletion reason if you provided one) for seven years from the date of deletion. This record exists solely so that:
- We can investigate and defend against any payment disputes or chargebacks under UK contract law (six-year limitation period under the Limitation Act 1980, plus a one-year safety margin).
- We can meet our financial-records obligations under UK tax law (HMRC requires business records to be kept for six years).
This sealed record is never used for any other purpose. It is automatically and permanently purged seven years after the deletion date by a database expiration index.
Active subscriptions
Deleting your SpeakM account does not automatically cancel any active subscription with the App Store or Google Play. To stop being billed, cancel the subscription separately:
- iPhone / iPad: Settings → your Apple ID at the top → Subscriptions → SpeakM → Cancel.
- Android: Play Store app → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → SpeakM → Cancel.
Restoring a deleted account
Account deletion is permanent. We cannot restore a deleted account or its data. If you decide to use SpeakM again, you can sign up fresh; we will create a new account.
